ArtsWork gives students from grades 6 to 12 the chance to experience what it feels like to be an artist, not just in making work, but in preparing it to be seen at a public art-dedicated space. Once a week over the course of the 18-week after-school program, students explore a variety of mediums, from drawing and printmaking to collage and design, while developing the skills needed to build a portfolio and present their work. As they create, they are also introduced to the broader world of art: how artists develop ideas, how they document their work, and how they share it with others. The goal is to make these processes begin to feel familiar. Students start to understand that being an artist is not a simple moment of inspiration, but an ongoing practice that combines creativity, reflection, and discipline.
