Simone Nibbs
Art Leader • (She/Her/They/Them)
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Simone Nibbs (she/her/they) first moved to California to attend Pomona College, where she earned a degree in Anthropology and Theatre. After graduation, she accepted a Theatre Tech Fellowship with a nonprofit theatre, and spent a couple of years doing backstage tech work in the greater Miami area before she moved back to California to study corporeal mime with her former professor, Thomas Leabhart. She studied with and assisted him for years while creating a solo performance piece in the Verbatim Theatre style before taking a break from the arts (and birthday party clowning) to teach English/foreign culture full time in public schools in the Japanese countryside. She joined the dA team in 2022 as a member of the De Colores team, has since branched out into more dA programs, and is enjoying getting to teach things that she is truly passionate about-- such as the ideas that anyone who makes art because they want to is an artist, and that making things in collaboration is fun. Her interests include any kind of art or craft: performing, visual, or functional-- but especially sewing, historical costuming, clay, puppets/art dolls, automata, and diorama. Simone is also currently captaining a Devised Theatre Collective that is deep in the process of creating and writing an original mixed-media show. She has experience doing movement consulting for performers and teaching corporeal mime workshops for adults both domestically and abroad.
